Dr. Olena Melnyk is a Senior Researcher at the Climate Policy lab, ETH Zurich and Associate Professor at Ecology and Botany Department of Sumy National Agrarian University, Head of the International Projects Division (Ukraine). 

Her sphere of scientific interests includes the development of criteria for ecological safety, climate policy, rational use of natural resources, waste management and sustainable development. Her research experience consists of over 50 publications, including patents for invention, manuals, articles in highly cited journals etc. 

For over 15 years, she has taught and conducted active scientific work on disseminating ecological culture at universities in Ukraine and abroad (Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Turkey etc.). She is a visiting professor at Royal Agricultural University (the UK). 

Since 2014 she has been engaged in international grant activity, performs coordination and management functions, and provides technical assistance in implementing international grant programs: Erasmus+, International Labour Organization, British Council, etc. The main direction of her grant projects is theoretical and applied aspects of environmental safety. She also runs social projects in the field of sustainable development for representatives of local government, young leaders and businesses. She is a project coordinator of the Erasmus+ Jan Monnet Project - EU Climate Leadership. She is a core team member of the project CAS rebuild Ukraine (Bern University of Applied Science, Switzerland) and national coordinator of the project “Agricultural land remediation: addressing the toxic remnants of the war in Ukraine” (Royal Agricultural University, the UK).
